Flack Residence

  • The project consists of the interior renovation of unit #78 for Roberta Flack (1937-) in the Dakota building. The Dakota, also known as the Dakota Apartments, is a cooperative apartment building built in 1884 at 1 West 72nd Street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City, United States. Roberta Flack is a four-time Grammy Award winning singer.

  • The apartment has four fireplaces and 12-foot ceilings. It is next door to John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s unit.

  • In 1985 Roberta Flack hires Goldfinger to design an alteration to the apartment to provide additional storage.

  • The property is listed for sale by Town Residential for $9,500,000 USD on June 18, 2015. The property is delisted on May 16, 2016.

  • The property is listed for sale by Coldwell Banker Warburg for $7,500,000 USD on September 19, 2016.

  • The property listing is decreased to $6,995,000 USD on January 18, 2017. It is taken off the market on October 13, 2017.

  • The apartment is sold on April 26, 2018 for $6,995,000 USD to Eric Eisner and Stacey Bendet Eisner. Ms. Eisner is chief executive and creative director of clothing company Alice + Olivia, and her husband Eric is the son of former Walt Disney Company CEO Michael Eisner. They plan to combine the unit with adjacent unit #77, which was allegedly the one-time home of Judy Garland.  The merge of both units will restore the exact floor plan of one of the Dakota’s 65 original units back when the building was finished in 1884.
